Hello 2013… I am already two months late…

I am still learning, still looking for new opportunities and still thinking positive. This is my friend, Emalyn. She is the most strongest and courageous person I know.  The epitome of a brass teenager in Hackney, trying to pursue something but not fully sure yet. I guess that is the majority of us, teenagers living in 2013. Her attitude is I don’t give a fuck and I love this picture because it spells just that. I decided to update this blog but I have been so busy lately. But I promise I will blog more…now! Because I have a lot to share, and I wish you would follow me on this journey. So here are a few pictures.

Xala – A lesson on the corrupt state that is Africa.

I have only just discovered the late and great director, Ousmane Sembene. Xala, directed in 1975 really did hit home. Although I am a British student who loves film and enjoys History alongside. It was great to find out more about how the African states adapted post-colonialism. Most African states gained their independence in the 60′s; Ghana and Nigeria being one of the first. Xala is set in the state of Senegal, and shows the corruption of the state officials through the use of satire. I hate to be the one to give out the whole film synopsis on my blog, but personally the best way to understand a film is to view it through a blank canvas (eyes). But prepare to be amazed on the hard hitting realism of this masterpiece. I feel Sembene should be considered and placed on the list of great film directors, he pioneered African film! None of that Nollywood aesthetic. Just watch it!

AHHHH! I miss WordPress blogging!! Tumblr has rinsed me – DRY.

OK OK OK, apologizes. You know I was looking back at my archives and my opinions on topics was astonishing, even though I was 14 or 15 at the time. Blogging is cool. Anyways, god I miss WordPress. Tumblr is this new rave which I guess exploded in late 2010, and know it is so common that guys douchies sometimes say ‘Ah I wish I was a Tumblr lightie’ and occasionally I hear ‘Why are you dressing like your on Tumblr’? Purleaseeee, like ‘Tumblr’ has their own dress code. But I have been watching films like CRAZY. I keep a film blog, which I started just after I found blogging on WordPress a bit dry. I have watched over 420 films since July 2011 how great is that??!? Yep I know. I am here to stay mate. There are a few films which changed my whole thinking like Menance II Society and Just Another Girl on the I.R.T and Perks of a Wallflower. (P.O.W) taught me that it is OK to be different. But doesn’t everything and everyone say so? I recommend you read the book and then thank me. University is just around the corner and can I just say ‘HALLELUJAH’ The next milestone, which I will pass with flying colours…… OK, so I am back?!

AS OF LATELY

Yes, I have been writing.

I am not neccsaarily having a fun time (my holidays have been great) However, the film Tiny Furniture directed by Lena Durham’s as inspired me a great load, if I do get an interview and I am asked ‘So Eli what inspired you?’ I would probably say after watching Inglorious Basterds but Tiny Furniture made me take action’. In other news, I wish to see where my writing takes me…. Lets keep wishing for the best.

Imagine this scenario, receiving an email stating you won a competition. You have no account of how you was selected and where exactly you entered…. This happened to me. To be honest I was in glee when I recieved the email, but I actually thought it was a hoax! But I am very happy, I am quite a lucky person I guess. I like recieving parcels!!

Additionally, I have been re-arranging my wardrobe and the state of my room is in disorder! I also have entered a film competition, and I have been filming rather shenanigans. The future is somewhat uncertain so its best to focus on the present but with an eye on the future. Thats my current state of mine.
